WHNPA Announces $5,000 Grant (download)

The White House News Photographers Association® announced that the $5,000 PROJECT GRANT has been re-established for a WHNPA member to work on an in-depth undertaking of his or her choosing.

This grant is designed to give a member the opportunity to work on a project that might not be possible without financial assistance. Some of the work produced will be featured in future WHNPA publications such as the online Member Gallery and The Report.

WHNPA Education Chair and Project Grant committee chairman Pablo Martinez Monsivais said, “It’s with great enthusiasm that I am happy to help announce the WHNPA Project Grant for 2017, open to all WHNPA members. Please check www.whnpa.org in the coming weeks for updates and further details.”

It is part of WHNPA’s mission to provide opportunities for our members to do meaningful work. While these opportunities come in many forms, we believe that financial support for important projects, especially given the changing dynamics of the industry, is one of the most impactful ways we can do just that said WHNPA President Whitney Shefte. We are thrilled to re-launch this grant and we look forward to seeing the great work the winner produces.

The grant recipient will be announced at the ‘Eyes of History®’ awards gala on June 10, 2017, at the Ritz Carlton in downtown Washington

The top winners of the still, video, multimedia and student contests will also be honored at the annual ‘Eyes of History®’ gala on June 10, 2017, at the Ritz-Carlton in Washington. The black-tie event celebrates all the winning photojournalists and the President of the United States. Nearly 1,000 guests, including government dignitaries and industry celebrities, attend.

The White House News Photographers Association is a 96-year-old non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the efforts of Washington’s professional photojournalists. The WHNPA aims to provide professional and educational outreach to its members and the community through scholarships, programming, an annual competition and a celebration of the industry at the annual ‘Eyes of History®’ gala.
