White House News Photographers' Association General Members Meeting

7:15 PM- Meeting called to order by President Susan Walsh at Fox Channel 5 studios. Forty two members in attendance.

ELECTION OF NEW OFFICERS:

Nomination Committee results were presented. Nominees were: President-Susan Walsh; Vice-President-Doug Wilkes; Treasurer-JeffLawrence; Secretary-Bob Pearson; E-Board Seats: One seat each for TV and Stills is open this year. The nomininees are: Susan Biddle (Stills); Nicki Kahn (Stills); Ed Eaves (TV); and Stu Cohen (TV) [[Please note that Sean McGarvey has withdrawn his nomination from this election. This withdrawal notice was received after the ballots were mailed, so we were not able to remove his name. Your two choices for the open Video E-Board seat are Ed Eaves and Stu Cohen.]]

Mike Horan moved to close nominations at 7:25 PM. The motion was seconded by many. Business manager Larry Levin will distribute ballots to all active and life members. Votes need to be received by 22 April, 2003, the date of the next general membership meeting (again at Fox Channel 5 studios).

TREASURER'S BUDGET REPORT:

Jeff Lawrence presented the financial report, which can be obtained by contacting Bob Pearson (bobpearson@cox.net) or Jeff Lawrence (jlawrence@krtinfo.com). All of our major sponsors have contributed all or part of their sponsorship monies for the year. Ed Eaves has landed Thompson Broadcast & Media Solutions as a third major sponsor for the WHNPA. Thompson will be the presenter for the video contest winners.

SPEAKER:

Leighton Mark spoke on preparedness for possible terrorist attacks on Washington, DC. After extensive study and research on the matter, Leighton lectured on what measures photographers and news organizations need to take to guarantee some safety for employees covering possible terrorist incidents in our area. Leighton will present his findings in writing for the WHNPA web page in the coming weeks.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Other items for discussion included a motion to reduce the number of members needed for a quorum from the current 25 present at General Membership Meetings. It was agreed that this was a matter for discussion among the E-booard members, as it would mean changing the WHNPA By-Laws.
