The Road to Kabul
© 2001, Chicago Tribune/photo
by Pete Souza
Washington
based Chicago Tribune photojournalist, winner of numerous
White House News Photographers yearly contests and Picture
of the Year Competitions, Pete Souza presents his riveting
photographs from Afghanistan on the edge of war. Souza
spent six weeks in Afghanistan in October and November.
He trekked through the Hindu Kush Mountains, including
a seven-hour horseback ride over the 15,000-foot Anjuman
Pass, to be in position to document the Northern Alliance
as it made its way into Kabul. Souza shows slides of his
work, and shares a revealing look at the country that
has taken over our consciousness. Souza has covered Kosovo,
Macedonia, and Northern Ireland for the Tribune, as well
as the 2000 presidential campaign and the 1998 impeachment
saga. His photographs have been published in National
Geographic, Life, and many other magazines and newspapers
throughout the world, and he has had one-person exhibitions
in some of our best venues.

Here is New York: A Democracy of Photographs
here
is new york invites anyone,
amateur or professional, who has images connected to the
World Trade Center disaster to make them a part of the
exhibition. Our intention is to display the widest possible
variety of pictures from the widest possible variety of
sources, believing as we do that the World Trade Center
disaster and its aftermath has ushered in a new period
in our history, one which demands that we look at and
think about images in a new and unconventional way. In
keeping with here is new york's democratic and
populist nature, which we feel is not only appropriate
to what has happened but intrinsic to its understanding,
we are setting only the following limitation on submissions.
All pictures must relate to the events of
9/11/2001, in the broadest and yet most intimate sense.
Photos may be no larger than 8 x 10 inches and cannot
be returned without a SASE. Send your submissions or deliver
