A DARK ADDICTION
With disability rates as high as 37 percent in coal-mining areas such as Buchanan County, Va., the region has many people with long-term pain management needs. This is especially the case for coal miners whose need for pain medication has led them down the deadly road to addiction and leaving the area saddled with spiraling rates of painkiller abuse.
