DAUGHTERS OF IRAQ
Most of the Daughters of Iraq are women widowed by the violence of the past six years. They are photographed while telling the stories of their husbands and their survival since his death. Hired mostly by Sunni officials, they provide security for checkpoints and support their families with income from their rare jobs. Contracts for the Daughters of Iraq may end early in 2009, leaving windows without a socially acceptable job and a way to feed their families.
