FUGEES
Ahmed Halouf Moneim, from Darfur, is a refugee living in Cairo, Egypt. In 1999, Ahmed was jarred from sleep by explosions of gunfire, the rumble of horse trotting, and shrill screams. His whole village was being attacked and set afire by what he identified as "janjaweed," a nomadic group of militias. His mother and younger brother were killed in the attack, burned to death in their huts.
