In recent years, madrassas have been accused of being breeding grounds for Islamic extremists. Each year, thousands of Pakistani children attended these religious schools where they work hard to memorize the Koran and live a strict Muslim lifestyle. Some leave to become imams and religious figures, others have been recruited by militants to become religious fighters.
