JUST A MONTANA DIRT FARMER
Self described as just a "third generation Montana dirt farmer," candidate
Jon Tester challenged incumbent Senator Conrad Burns (R-MT) for his United
States Senate seat in 2006. Known for his populist image and distinctive "flat-top" haircut,
Tester from Big Sandy, Montana was considered an underdog when he announced
his candidacy. The Abramoff scandal, Iraq War and Tester's folksy personality
were enough to win him the race. Tester arrived in Washington in December
as the newly elected Senator from Montana.
